Jeff’s Genesis

I can’t believe we recently celebrated our five-year business anniversary in September. It seems like yesterday we made the leap to launch Jeff’s Good Works.

If you’re anything like me, I like to hear people’s stories; especially from someone I may choose to work with & allow into my home. Connecting with others is really important & everyone has a unique story. I’d be happy to share my business adventure with you to give a bit of a backdrop of how Jeff’s Good Works came to be:

Let’s flashback to the past where I was working as an engineer for a fortune 500 company. I gained lots of experience over the 20 years I was there, but was unfortunately laid off due to acquisitions. From there, I worked as a project manager for a short period of time, but was unable to find another company that needed an engineer.

While I was relocating to Bemidji in 2014 my father-in-law suggested that I become a general contractor. I’ve always been good at fixing things & I gained a wealth of knowledge from my previous experience as a carpenter. I thought I was too old to begin a business adventure & to reinvent myself, but I could definitely see a need for this type of service work in Bemidji.

After much deliberation, I brought this big life decision before the Lord (I have a personal relationship with Jesus) and my wife Darla. With prayer, petition & an open mind & heart, I could hear the Lord say he wanted me to take a leap of faith to start

Jeff’s Good Works.

So, I took action.

The first two years were hard. I had a lot of organization & business development to manage & my body had to re-adapt to this type of physical labor. I remember my back hurting often & then it was my knee & even my fingers would go numb from time to time. I thought “Ok Lord, I know I am meant to do this, please help me stay strong.”

God came through.

Then in 2020, Jeff’s Good Works went into rocket ship mode. I finally developed a sturdy clientele & many people had extra time or funds to work on home projects due to the dramatic shift of the pandemic. I had so much work I could barely keep up.

Then, God did something really cool as God always does…

My son Paul & daughter-in-law Courtney were hearing from the Lord to move north. As we've all done before, the family went back to prayer, petition & thanksgiving to see what God had in store for my son’s family. All we could hear from the Lord was “GO!” and just like that, in the blink of an eye, my son Paul relocated his family to Bemidji & joined me as a full-time contractor.

This move has been a God send in multiple ways. First, my son Paul can now provide for his growing family during a season of life that seemed uncertain & scarce. Second, I now have a strong right-hand man that can do a lot of the heavy lifting & carrying that I can’t quite do as easily as I used to.

I remember this last summer, I had a really hard time carrying a beam up a ladder & my son said, “Hey dad, I can do that.” I stopped dead in my tracks & exclaimed, “Oh ya, you can. Be my guest!” With swiftness & ease, my 'youngster' son went right up that ladder like he was carrying a sack of potatoes as opposed to a 100 lb. beam.

At that moment, I was in awe & amazement.

I am in awe at God’s faithfulness & I am amazed at how God has provided for our entire family.

I am delightfully stunned at the outcome of our life when we can be obedient & ready to say “Ok God. I am listening. What do you want me to do?” God moves in the most incredible & mysterious ways. I am joy-filled to have a front row seat to God’s unfailing love.

This company, Jeff’s Good Works, is a product of love

Jeff’s Good Works is a representation of God’s love for us, our love for each other as a family & a love paired with passion to help other people fix, change, adapt & improve their homes in a way that makes people smile.

This is not just my story; it is our story.

It’s God’s story through us & our story as a family. Now, it’s your turn! I’d love to hear your story & connect with you to make your home dreams come to fruition. I can’t wait to meet you & hopefully be a part of your 2024 projects plans.

Blessings,

Jeff Haseltine
